November Lighthouse Spotlight: Corey Thompson Preschool Special Education Teacher, Land Early Learning Center in Westminster School District We were thrilled to recognize Corey Thompson, Preschool Special Education Teacher at the Land Early Learning Center in Westminster School District, as our November Lighthouse Spotlight Award recipient. Corey was all smiles and had tears in her eyes when she was surprised with the recognition. She shared how meaningful it felt to be seen. She also laughed and said her colleagues had "got me twice already," referring to the CalECSE award she received just one month earlier. Moments like this remind us why it is so important to spotlight our incredible educators who light the way for students, families, and colleagues. Corey’s dedication to early childhood special education is truly exceptional. Her work is not just a role or a passion. It is part of who she is. Her classroom radiates belonging, acceptance, and joyful learning. Every detail is intentionally designed to be accessible and engaging so that every student, regardless of ability or background, can shine. It is a space where challenges become opportunities and where children who may struggle in other settings suddenly find their confidence. Corey brings warmth, creativity, and steady encouragement to every moment. Whether she is singing, dancing, modeling communication supports, or partnering with families and colleagues, she embodies what it means to be a Lighthouse. She guides others with hope, heart, and unwavering dedication. This recognition comes shortly after Corey received the California Early Childhood Special Education Network (CalECSE) "Be the One" Award, a statewide honor given to individuals who go above and beyond for young learners. Out of dozens of nominations throughout California, Corey’s outstanding commitment stood out. Corey, thank you for being a beacon of light for your students, their families, and the WSD community. Congratulations. We are so proud to celebrate you this month.
