Providing a high-quality special education experience for each child is a team effort, and meaningful parent participation is central to supporting student success. The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) serves as a key partner in this work by bringing together families, educators, students, and community members to strengthen collaboration across our SELPA.
The CAC is established in accordance with California law and reflects the diverse communities we serve. Members include parents, educators, adults with disabilities, agency representatives, and individuals who are committed to supporting students with special needs. Members are appointed by their local governing boards, as outlined in our SELPA Local Plan.
The CAC serves in an advisory role to the SELPA and its member districts, offering input, raising awareness, and supporting opportunities for shared learning. The committee works to:
Promote family engagement and community awareness of special education.
Support understanding and acceptance of diverse learning needs and strengths.
Provide feedback on programs, services, and parent supports.
Help identify training and learning opportunities for families and educators.
Encourage collaboration to improve outcomes for students with disabilities.
The CAC meets four times per year, and all parents, caregivers, staff, and community members are welcome to attend. Together, we partner to ensure every student has access to meaningful, high-quality educational opportunities and that our families are informed, supported, and empowered along the way.
